Franchising

M

any businesses operate as franchises where a franchisor provides a franchisee with a license to use a trade name or trademark and associated goodwill. The parties enter into a franchising agreement which frequently includes royalty payments made by the franchisee and the obligation to follow certain trade practices and protocols of an established franchise business. Franchising in Ontario requires certain disclosures pursuant to a law called the Arthur Wishart Act (Franchise Disclosure). Our lawyers have experience in acting for and advising franchisees on the terms of their franchise agreements and associated licences. We have acted for several local as well as regional franchisee businesses.

If you have questions about your franchise agreement, the rights and responsibilities that apply in your franchising relationship or general inquiries concerning small business operations involving a franchisor, our lawyers would be pleased to assist you.
